Dominion Power’s Glass Half-Full in Emission Restrictions

While Virginian politicians were screaming bloody murder over the latest assault on the coal industry by the Obama administration this week, Dominion Virginia Power was quietly assessing how it might be better off than most under the stringent new rules requiring coal fired power plants to cut emissions for 30% by 2030. Dominion brought the brand new state of the art power plant in St Paul in Wise County online two years ago and it is one of the cleanest burning plants anywhere. It operates under the most stringent emission standards devised by the State of Virginia, and ranks among the lowest plants in carbon emitted per megawatt hour. Dominion used the new guidelines as a PR plus as it boasts about already being a low carbon producer.
