Deputies Deploy Less Lethal Weapons on Arrest of Corky Rose

On May 22, 2019 at approximately 4:30pm Wise County Deputies received information that Corky Rose, age 32, was located at 1644 Roda Road in Appalachia, VA. He had an active warrant for his arrest for brandishing a firearm from an incident that occurred on May 19, 2019. Deputies had information that Mr. Rose made statements that he wanted law enforcement to kill him. Deputies arrived at the residence along with Appalachia Police Department and the Virginia State Police. They located Mr. Rose hiding behind a couch. He was hiding his right hand and holding some type of object that resembled a firearm. Deputies were giving Mr. Rose numerous commands to comply and drop the item in which he refused. A deputy then deployed OC spray which had little effect. Mr. Rose still did not comply. A taser was then deployed and a deputy and state trooper were able to restrain and secure him in handcuffs. The deputies determined that Mr. Rose was holding a pistol grip butane torch when he would not comply. Mr. Rose stated that he had used methamphetamine and Xanax earlier in the day. He was provided medical attention at Lonesome Pine Hospital and was released. He is currently being held at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Duffield, VA with no bond. Additional charges will be pending
