Commonwealth’s Elder Abuse Bill

In the Commonwealth, the Virginia Assembly has begun the first of many steps towards passing legislation that would help to protect against elder abuse, neglect and exploitation. Commonwealth Attorney Chuck Slemp claims that the Bill is the same model they use to successfully prosecute child abuse cases. Already approved by a Senate sub committee the Elder Abuse Bill, has also been unanimously approved in favor of a companion Bill. Experts expect that given such vast bipartisan support, both proposed Bills should move towards a vote in the General Assembly in the near future.
