Christopher Michael Anderson Surrenders

After a four hour standoff between law enforcement and an East Stone Gap individual, officials were happy to announce it ended peacefully. Wanted on a capias for probation violation, 36 year old, Christopher Michael Anderson was arrested. The charge followed a protective order that was filed by his wife. Utilizing an armored vehicle from the Virginia State Police, the Wise County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Response team issued the capias at the Anderson residence.
According to Wise County Commonwealth Attorney, Chuck Slemp III, Anderson had been on twelve months’ probation since the first week of November, when he had been sentenced to three years for misdemeanor charges of Assault and Battery on a family member, brandishing a Firearm and Reckless Handling of a Firearm, with thirty four months suspended.
Slemp added that the charges stemmed from an incident that occurred on January 26th, in which Anderson hit and then choked his wife and fired a weapon inside their home. Iraqi war veteran, Christopher Michael Anderson, had been receiving counseling from the Veterans Administration before a disturbance that took place on Christmas Day at the family’s residence when he began drinking.
Wise County Sheriff Elect Grant Kilgore stated that Anderson had been convinced to surrender peacefully, thanks to the negotiators that were at the scene. After Anderson’s surrender, officers were able to remove four weapons from the home. Kilgore added that Anderson’s wife and three children were safely at a relative’s home during the standoff.
