Burn ban issued for Lee County

Due to severe dry weather conditions and unseasonably high temperatures, Lee County Emergency Management Director Nathan Cope has issued a declaration of local emergency to ban all open-air burning in Lee County until further notice.  The ban is effective at 12:00 noon Monday, November 7, and will remain in effect until the threat of potential wildfires has subsided.  No open-air fires of any type will be allowed during the ban.

The Raven Rocks fires in Letcher County, Kentucky and in the Pound area of Wise County has charred over 1,500-acres since last week. Forestry officials reported Sunday that the blaze was 25 percent contained
