Bridge replacement in Weber City

Motorists traveling U.S. 23 in Weber City will have noticed signs alerting them to the work being done along the bridge that crosses the North Fork of the Holston River.

Michelle Earl, communications manager with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) told TimesNews the utilities in the vicinity of the bridge are being moved in preparation for the bridge’s replacement — a project that is set to begin later this year.

Earl says the project, which will be advertised to the construction community in June, will replace the two separate two-lane bridges with one four-lane bridge.

The project estimate is $8.6 million and it will take two years to construct the new bridge.
