During the meeting the President of Mountain Empire Community College, Dr. Scott Hamilton, stated that MECC enrollment is down by 3% and the college also had recent budget cuts. He also stated that the Pennington Gap Center hold the GED program, the Regional Adult Education Program and MECC entered a partnership, to offer college classes while earning the GED. Building Inspector, Keith Harless made a proposal to increase fee for building permits compared to neighboring counties prices. Harless stated that the annual budget is $67,000 with permit fees and the contactor's license tax is $27,000 annually. The increase would help to offset more of the actual cost. The Board decided to table the matter to do more research.
Bids were taken for the Sub Hollow Road improvement and the lowest bid was from Glass Machinery. The board approved to go with Glass to do the renovation.
