The Lee County Board of Supervisors met Thursday May 14th to discuss a six-year secondary road construction plan. The budget for next year is set a $506,526. Residency Administrator for VDOT, Allen Sumpter, explained that only two roads are currently listed on the plan. Reconstruction for Friendship Hollow, State Route 656, is estimated to cost $550,418 while Dry Branch Road, State Route 668, is estimated at $3.4 million. Two hundred thirty thousand dollars has been set aside for rural additions throughout the county.
Lee County Administrator Dane Poe explained the issues caused by lack of funding after Deep Springs residents made a plea for a tar cover on State Route 809.
The board passed resolutions of support for 3 PSA projects, including the areas of Frog Level, Chances Branch, Thompson Settlement, and for Water System Emergency Generators. The board also approved a 3-year consulting contract for the CPA services of Hicok, Fern, and Company, as well as a 3-year contract for auditing services provided by Robinson, Farmer, Cox, and Associates of Blacksburg.
The board recessed until Thursday, May 28th at 5 p.m. when they will reconvene for a budget workshop.
