Big Stone Man Facing Newly Upgraded Charges

A Grand Jury in Wise County has just upgraded a Big Stone Gap man’s charges in relation to a First Degree Murder incident, but is now facing Capital Murder charges thanks to a recent indictment.
32 year old Joshua Blake Smith was originally indicted last year in the killing of his grandmother, Charlene Osborne. The upgraded indictment states that Smith did “willfully and deliberately kill with premeditation.”
Commonwealth Attorney for Wise County and the City of Norton, Chuck Slemp related that because of a recent legislative directive to abolish capital punishment in Virginia, his office will not be asking for the death penalty in this case.
