The long-awaited book-turned-film Big Stone Gap movie opens today. The book's author and director of the film Adriana Trigiani will be joined by New 5 WCYB's Rebecca Pepin to host a movie-themed parade tomorrow, Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. Before that a pancake breakfast and the Jack Mac 5k Fun Run will take place. Locals can pay $50 to attend a reception with the actors of the film from 3-5 and from 5-7 a block party will be hosted at Carmines Visitor Center. WCYB will be live streaming the parade and block party.
Saturday’s schedule:
7-10am: pancake breakfast at Trinity United Methodist Church, open to the public
8:30am: Jack Mac 5K Fun Run. $25 registration includes pancake breakfast and t-shirt to first 180 runners. Registration starts 7:30. Trinity United Methodist Church
11am: parade along Wood Avenue. Traditional floats featuring cast from movie, vintage ‘70’s cars, high school marching bands. Live streaming on WCYB.com
noon: flower show in honor of Adriana Trigiani’s mother, Ida. SWVA museum.
1-5pm: meet the extras. Reunion for folks associated with the movie, wine tasting, local food vendor, live music. Free. Outdoor Drama/Tolliver House
