Wallace Subaru of Bristol stated they will provide free service on a new Outback SUV that was donated to Appalachian Agency for Senior Citizens, a member of Meals on Wheels that deliver meals to seniors in Russell, Buchanon, Tazewell and Dickenson county to seniors who have trouble leaving their home, as long as the vehicle is in use.
Nutrition Director Leah Call said "This vehicle is going to just make a huge difference in our program. We have some rough terrain. We are 100% rural, so it takes a lot of wear and tear on our current vehicles."
AASC Executive Director, Regina Sayers commented "As an area agency on aging, we rarely get anything new. We recycle everything, so having a new vehicle that is safe and dependable and very reliable is paramount to us being able to make those deliveries on time."
The new vehicle will go a long way in supporting those who deliver meals to make sure those in need don't go hungry. Last year AASC served more than 145,000 meals to nearly 700 people in Southwest Virginia through the program.
