ALL offenses to be prosecuted by the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office

Effective immediately, H. Fuller Cridlin is exercising his discretion under Va. Code § 15.2-1627 to prosecute all criminal offenses, including ordinances and misdemeanors by the Commonwealth Attorney's Office. This change in policy is to serve two primary purposes.

First of all, it will save money. The Commonwealth Attorney's office will prosecute these crimes at no additional cost to the taxpayer and without costing the municipality a penny. The Town of Pennington will save considerable funds by not paying a private attorney to prosecute on their behalf.

Secondly, this change will provide more consistency in criminal cases. With the Commonwealth Attorney's office handling all criminal cases in Lee County, citizens can expect to receive the same fair treatment whether they are charged in Pennington Gap, Jonesville, Rose Hill, or anywhere else.
