Administration Further Diminishes Reliance on Coal

Today the Obama administration will role out a plan to cut pollution from power plants by 30% by the year 2030, perhaps the most significant action to address global warming in US history. This new rule will further diminish coal’s role in producing electricity in the US. Once the dominant source of energy in the county, coal now supplies just under 40% of the nation’s electricity, replaced by booming supplies of natural gas and renewable sources like wind and solar.
