2019 Board of Education Excellence Awards

Recently the State Board of Education announced that 270 schools and nine school divisions earned the Virginia Index of Performance or VIP Awards for 2019 in advanced student learning and achievements. Established by the State Board of Education in 2007 as a way of recognizing schools and school divisions that exceed state and federal accountability standards is how the Virginia Index of Performance Program began.
Among those recognized as winning the 2019 Board of Education Excellence Awards in local schools from Wise County was Central High, and in Scott County the schools were Weber City Elementary and Yuma Elementary. Wise County received the Distinguished Achievement Division Winner for 2019. The Distinguished Achievement Awards for Schools was awarded to Duffield-Pattonsville Primary and Hilton Elementary of Scott County, and in Wise County it went to Eastside High, J.W. Adams Combined, L.F. Addington Middle, St. Paul Elementary and Union Primary.
