11 Month Old Infant Treated for Overdose

On June 5th  at 11:33 a.m. Wise County, Virginia E-911 Dispatchers received a call that  an 11 month old female child had possibly ingested the drug Suboxone. The mother advised that the father was prescribed 8.2 mg strips of Suboxone and the parents were uncertain how long ago the child may have taken the medication or how many.
The parents also stated that  the infant was in and out of consciousness and breathing very heavily. Wise County Deputy Dalton Cress and Chief  Tony Baker from the Pound Police Department, arrived at the home located in the county just outside the town of Pound.
Deputy Cress was able to determine that the infant was exhibiting signs of possible overdose and administered 4mg of Naloxone (Narcan). Within a few moments the baby became more alert with improved breathing.
Pound Rescue responded and transported the baby to a local hospital. In transit, Pound Rescue had to administer two additional doses of Naloxone.
Luckily due to the quick actions of both Law Enforcement and Rescue Members the infant was soon listed in stable condition.
At this time the incident is still under  investigation by the Wise County Sheriff’s Office and the Wise County Department of Social Services.
